THANK YOU

WEEK 10 # 23 - IS THIS REALLY THE END?

HIP HIP HOORAY!!!
I really cannot believe what I
accomplished in doing 23 things.
I was very much in the dark when
it came to any of these things
we did on IHCPL. Thank you for
giving me the chance to explore and
reach out beyond my limitations.
Each exercise was something new and
challenging, yet exciting. I love
the Library Elf, You Tube, posting
pictures and the downloadable media.
It has given me much more confidence.
And now I even have a BLOG. Who would
have thought!

WEEK 9 # 22 - Downloadable Media

This was fun. Ever since
my daughter's wedding, I love
listening to string quartet music
and I found a site where I can
download that type of music.
Also saw some mystery books and
cookbooks, my favorites. I found
that HCPL's digital site was much
easier to manuver around and clearer
to understand than the free sites.
I would definitely use this site.

WEEK 9 # 21 - Podcasts, Smodcasts

This was quite interesting.
I found several podcasts that
were quite interesting. There was
one called "Princeton Review
Vocabulary Minute" where you
can learn 4 words in 60 seconds
just with the short songs they
teach you. Kids know all the words
to songs, but don't have a clue
what their teacher just said. Then
also there was the "Thomas Ford
Memorial Library" which does teen
reviews on books. That's pretty neat
to get them involved. Also "Commuter
Reviews" where this man has an hour
commute and he will review books, movies
or music that you email him. Get someone's
opinion which sometimes can be helpful.

WEEK 9 # 20 Discover You Tube

I posted a video about a sweet tired
cat. It was so cute, the kitty's head
is falling backwards while it's asleep.
And what a precious face that kitten
has. I was having some trouble posting
this video to my blog, until I read
your helpful hints. Thank you so much.
It was so easy then. There were some
cute videos on YouTube and then some
crazy weird ones.

WEEK 9 # 20 Discover You Tube & Other Video Sharing Sites

WEEK 8 # 19 - Web-Base Apps.

I signed up for a free account in Zoho Writer.
I probably would never use this, but I think
it would be very beneficial to businesses and
college students. It's great that there's no
software to install and no USB drive or
diskettes needed. You can access documents
from any computer which is a plus. Also you
can add pictures to your documents or projects
which is nice. Very functional.

WEEK 8 # 18- Social Networking

My 2 favorite social networking sites were
dogster.com, cause I love dogs. Also
Rate My Space. One of my favorite hobbies
is decorating and in fact I just re-decorated
my guest room. Maybe I'll post a picture
of it. I love getting new ideas and seeing what
other people do. This has been a lot of fun.

WEEK 7 # 17 - Blog About Technology

When you think what it was like in the
50's and 60's, wow, we have come a
long way. Imagine what it will be like
in another 30 or 40 years. Unbelievable!
I love all the technology we have, just
learning to use it all can be challenging.
We purchased a new digital camera. I
thought it would be easy enough, but
instead of taking pictures I was taking
a movie. My husband is great at all this
new technology. My son-in-law is even
better. He can solve some of the problems
I have just over the phone. We are just
so dependent on all of this and kind of
feel like we're behind the times if we don't
keep up.

WEEK 7 # 16 - So What's in a Wiki?

This was interesting but at the same time
kind of scary. I added my blog to the
favorite blogs page on the IHCPL Wiki.
That was pretty easy. Looking at some of
these and being able to just go change
some info - I'm not quite sure of that.
As for library use, one could make a list
of books found pertaining to a research
project or certain subject. Then others
could add to it. That might help others
for future use.

WEEK 16 # 15- On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

It is so amazing what is out there
for the public. We must keep up
with the new technologies because
that is what they want. They still
want the "book collection", so they
can sit back and just chill and read
a book. One has to wonder what
things will be like in 20 - 30 years.
The library is such a great place!

Week 6 # 14 - Getting not-so Technical with Technorati

Looked into Technorati and it was very
interesting in what others have wrote.
You could spend a lot of time there with
all the different topics and subjects.
There were different results for the
keyword search, in the blog directory
and advanced search.

Week 6 # 13 - Tagging Makes the Web 2.0 World go Round

I set up a del.icio.us account, which
was easy and now I can add my favorites
to it. I am an avid supporter of the
Susan G. Komen association which I
added. Also I like to garden, decorate
and check out recipes. So these are
added to my account which I enjoy.
Now I can check my favorites at one
spot.

Week 5 # 12- The "Library" Elf Will Remind You

Alright!! This was the easiest.
Did this in no time. We have our
HCPL accounts to check the
status of everything but this is
neat to have an added "ELF".

Week 5 # 10 Play Around With Image Generators

Here is my Meez image.
That was fun trying on
different outfits and
hairstyles. Really quite
a variety and different looks.

Night Photo

Beautiful night picture
of Buckingham Fountain
in Chicago.

Week 4 # 9 - Finding Feeds

This exercise was a bit more
of a challenge. I would put in
some sites that turned out not
to be RSS feeds. However I did
find Feedster to very helpful.
I didn't care for Syndic8, which I
couldn't manuver with as well.
Overall this was a great experience.

Week 4 # 8 - Make Life "really simple" with RSS

This exercise wasn't too difficult.
It was fun picking what feeds were
of interest to me. Now being able
to look at them I can see what's
happening in the news and around
the world. I can also get the latest
weather updates for my traveling
times. I liked having so much
variety to chose from. Also setting
up your account in Blogline was quite
simple.

iHCPL Week 3: #5 Discover Flickr

What a challenge!! Couldn't have
done this without the help of a
special friend. Look forward to
doing more with flickr. This has
been quite a learning experience
for me.

Week 2 # 4 - Online Safety and Sharing

One must be careful when online and
how much information is shared with
others. With the hackers and the risk
of identity theft, you can never be too
cautious. Use your head, be alert and
be careful.

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

This is my first entry in my first blog.
I think I actually accomplished it.
What a great feeling. Am very excited
to be doing this - especially since I
feel I'm "behind the times".

Week 5 # 11- A Thing About Library Thing

It was quite easy getting the books, but had a bit of trouble tranferring it to my blog. Still not sure if I did it correctly.
